I have many a tale to tell from behind our Spinal Column Radio microphones. In the past, I’ve told of groupies braving the rain to take in a show, and how we podcasted atop the nearly forgotten grave of Harvey Lillard — the once deaf janitor who holds a place in chiropractic history as its first patient. But I’ve never shared how this legend in chiropractic was responsible for bringing us a fan. (more…)

I’ll never forget my first interview, but my son will never remember it.
Logan, my ten year-old audio engineer son, and I were eight months into producing our Internet radio program about “all-things-chiropractic,” and we were attracting a growing audience from all over the world.
Before I knew it, I was on the phone with Dr. James Dubel, the founder of one of the largest chiropractic gatherings that attracts a multitude of chiropractors every year to learn from the biggest names in the profession. He had tuned into our show, liked it, and was inviting us out to his event to set up an “on location studio” to interview his chiropractic superstar lineup. (more…)

With over 100 shows of our Spinal Column Radio podcast under my belt — taking my son, Logan, and I coast to coast to interview some of chiropractic’s greatest minds — you can imagine that I’ve got a story or two.
One such story took place in the farmlands just outside of Portland, Oregon. Logan and I were invited to heft our studio down to the Big Top Legacy Gathering — a regular old-school chiropractic philosophy turnout held under a circus tent. (more…)

I’m always on the lookout to break from the confines of my studio to record another episode of Spinal Column Radio. Whether it’s firing up the mic to podcast on a sandy beach, conduct an interview while soaking in a hot tub, or introduce our show at 2500 feet from the backseat of a Cessna, my creative side is always thinking ahead. Such was the case when I approached Dr. Graeme Gibson for an interview atop the grave of our profession’s first patient: Harvey Lillard. (more…)

The other day I had the chance to be interviewed on an Internet radio show designed to introduce youth to the various professions that have been ranked by the Jobs Rated Almanac as the Top 100 Careers for the next decade. “Chiropractor” ranked number 19.

Certainly you’ve heard a song played on a radio station, but I bet you’ve never heard a song played about a radio station. Well, thanks to my antique collecting crony, I have. And would you believe it has a chiropractic connection? (more…)

When I started Spinal Column Radio two years ago, my original intention was merely to refresh and repurpose the decade and half of articles I had written for the Kingston Community News into a radio-style format. I never dreamt that our show would take such a radical and exciting turn, sending my audio-engineer-son and I coast to coast interviewing some of the most influential and greatest philosophical minds in our profession. I was being described as the “Larry King” of chiropractic.

My eleven year-old audio-engineer son, Logan, and I just returned home from an amazing weekend in New Jersey after taking our Spinal Column Radio podcast studio on the road. Marking our third time now to the long-standing New Beginnings Chiropractic Philosophy Weekends, we were invited to interview over twenty-one fantastic chiropractors, cover a 60 minute speed coaching event, and conduct a battery of “man on the street” interviews. By all measures it was a successful weekend! And then it was time for us to come home. And to do so we had a battle on our hands.
